GRID-TIE SYSTEMS

4.2KW PV System

This roof mounted solar electric system will generate 4200 watts (peak power). Averaged over four seasons, this system can generate approx. 6000kwh per year or 16.54kwh per day.

INSTALLED SYSTEM COST*$46,615
GOVERNMENT REBATE-$8000
APPROX RECs**-$3400
GRAND TOTAL AFTER REBATE AND CREDITS**$35,215

*Installation cost based on a North facing roof with a slope of 25° - 35° with corrugated metal roofing and a reasonable distance from the panel location to the main power switch. Other situations may incur additional installation cost. Call us for a full quote.

**A REC is an open-market traded certificate. It’s value is determined by the market at the time of sale. Therefore it is impossible to determine the exact value of a REC until a time closer to the date of it’s sale.

Solar Panels icon SOLAR PANELS
The solar panels used in the system are 24 x Sharp 175 watt modules. They use mono-crystalline cell technology which is held in regard as the most efficient cell technology available. Sharp is the leading PV manufacturing company in the world. They carry a 25 year warranty.
Panels Mounting Rack icon PANEL MOUNTING RACK
The solar panels will be mounted to the roof using an Alzone Universal Racking system. These Australian made all-aluminium racks are approved for cyclone rating within Australia. They carry a 10 year warranty.
Inverter icon GRID-TIE INVERTER
Solar electricity generated by your panels will be converted and fed into the utility grid by a SMA SunnyBoy 3800 watt inverter. These well known inverters were developed by SMA in Germany - long known as world leaders in solar home technology. They carry a 10 year warranty.
System Display iconSYSTEM DISPLAY
The performance of your solar electric system can be read by hand-held display made by Effergy. This unit is battery powered and is fed information from the system wirelessly so that the unit can be displayed anywhere in your home.
Installation icon INSTALLATION, WIRE, COMPONENTS
The installation includes all labour, wiring, conduit and switches. Enclosure boxes may be required depending on the location of the inverter, but are not included in this price.

Grid-Tie PV System diagram

A Grid-Tie, or grid-connected PV system is an array of solar panels connected via an inverter to provide power for your home, with excess production feeding into the utility grid. At night when the solar panels are not producing electricity, the power for your home comes to you from the grid. If you export enough electricity during the day it will balance or exceed the amount you draw at night.

In essence, the grid is used as a 'battery'. The benefits of using this system over traditional batteries, are that the grid is 100% efficient at returning the power you put in. A traditional deep cycle battery bank will only return about 90% when brand new and the efficiency will lower after each year of use.
