Wind Generator

wind generatorWhat is it?
A wind generator is a device that creates electricity using turbine powered by catching strong wind. There are many types of wind generators, but typically they will have two to four blades used for catching the wind that rotate around a single axis attached to the generating mechanism. Large scale wind generators used in industrial wind farms are very different to the micro-wind generators used in a typical renewable energy system for a home.

How will it be installed?
A wind generator needs to be in direct wind. Therefore it is usually installed on top of a tall pole or tower. This can be self-supported with a strong base foundation and multiple guy-lines or it can be bracketed to the side of an existing building.

How long do they last?

There are different wind generators for different applications. A wind generator located next to the ocean has to deal with salt air and will degrade faster than an installation in an arid area. If a wind generator is turning 24 hours a day in strong winds, parts will wear faster than a wind generator that is spins only during intermittently. Warranties vary. Please contact for more info.

PLEASE NOTE:

Though the popularity of wind generators has grown significantly in recent years, we have found few locations in the south coast area that have sufficient wind to warrant the purchase cost of a wind generator over additional solar panels. This said, good wind locations do exist. If you feel that your site might be a good wind location, it can be a great way to supplement solar or even generate all of your electricity for your system.
